What is the BARC Protocol?
It's the science behind every Growlrr product. When the recipe-builder hands you a daily plan, or a BowlBalancer sachet completes a bowl, this is the method doing the work underneath. Here's how it fits together.

The whole protocol turns on one move: separate the calories from the micronutrients, and treat the micronutrients as precisely as a pharmaceutical. You provide the energy of the meal — fresh, local muscle meat, fish, egg and fat, the part a home cook can get right by eye. We provide the correction — the vitamins and minerals that have to land in a narrow band every day, delivered as a single purified, precisely-dosed sachet.
We call this approach BARC — Biologically Appropriate, Residually Corrected, and Growlrr pioneered it. The name is literal: start with a biologically appropriate fresh bowl, then correct the residual — the small, invisible gap that's left. Neither half is a complete diet on its own. A sachet is not a meal, and fresh meat alone isn't balanced. Together, they are.
Why fresh food needs correcting at all
Real ingredients vary. A chicken breast bought in Chennai in summer doesn't carry exactly the same nutrient profile as one bought in Delhi in winter, and the trace minerals a fresh bowl is short on — iodine, zinc, copper, certain B-vitamins — are precisely the ones you can't see or taste. They aren't nice-to-haves; they're the structural scaffolding of long-term health. So the task isn't to guess an average and hope, but to design for the full range of what real meat actually does.

How we prove a recipe holds up

The simulation engine
We re-run each recipe more than a million times, each time with the realistic variation you’d see in grocery meat from batch to batch and season to season. This is a Monte-Carlo simulation — a way of testing a design against thousands of “what if the meat was a bit different today?” scenarios rather than a single average.

The safety margin
The sachet is formulated to sit above the NRC 2006 minimum for every essential nutrient across that simulated population — and below the safe upper limit, so a nutrient can’t stack up to too much either. The correction absorbs the swings in the fresh food so the bowl stays inside the band.
Wilson C/R 95/99, in plain English
We hold every recipe to a single, checkable claim, borrowed from reliability engineering and pharmaceutical quality control. Stripped of the jargon, it reads:
95% confidence that your pet receives at least 90% of NRC 2006 for every essential nutrient on at least 99% of days of use.
NRC 2006is the National Research Council's Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats — the research reference standard for pet nutrition. The idea behind the claim is that the sachet carries the variation the fresh meat introduces, so the nutrient that's hardest to hit stays covered across days, not just on a perfect day.
One caveat: clearing the floor is not the same as an ideal diet. A single-protein bowl plus the sachet is adequate — a fine safety floor. The bowl we actually recommend is the diverse, balanced one — chicken, mutton, farmed fish like tilapia and egg — which adds variety, a wider safety cushion, and a profile closer to what a cat or dog evolved to eat.
